Our Story
A modern love story
swiped right into existence
In the summer of 2019, Fitz was doing a grad school internship in Seattle while Katie was in Chicago tagging along on a friend's work trip. With a free afternoon to herself, Katie ended up at a rooftop bar and somehow on Hinge, where her radius was apparently still set to Seattle. They matched right then and spent the next nine hours texting. The banter was so easy neither of them wanted to stop.
Even so, they never actually met up. Three months later, deep in a coding bootcamp and badly needing a break, Katie saw her favorite artist, Illenium, was playing at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver and messaged Fitz asking if he wanted to go as a first date. She quietly invited a few friends along just in case, without telling him. They had such a good time it didn't matter. Twenty-four hours later they flew back to their respective cities and settled into a year and a half of being the world's most dedicated pen pals. Texting only, never calls.
When the pandemic reshuffled Fitz's leadership program, it landed him in Seattle in April 2021. They started dating almost immediately, helped along by a one-year-old puppy on Katie's end and a new puppy on Fitz's by that August. Together they've since been to India, Mexico, Japan, the Philippines, Scotland, France, England, Austria, and all over the US. During a December 2023 trip to visit Fitz's family in the Philippines, his father told Katie "Welcome to the family" on their way out. She teared up on the spot.
Fitz proposed at Villa Montalvo in March 2024 with both families present. They now live very happily in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle with their two squishy fur babies.
