A modern love story swiped right into existence.

How we met

In the summer of 2019, Fitz was on a grad school internship in Seattle and Katie was at a rooftop bar in Chicago, where her Hinge radius was apparently still set to Seattle. They matched anyway and spent the next nine hours texting. The banter was so easy neither of them wanted to stop. Three months later Katie messaged him about her favorite artist, Illenium, playing Red Rocks, and asked if he wanted to go as a first date, with a few friends quietly invited along just in case. They had such a good time it didn't matter, and it kicked off a year and a half of being the world's most dedicated pen pals until April 2021 finally landed Fitz in Seattle for good.

The proposal

On a December 2023 trip to visit Fitz's family in the Philippines, his father told Katie “Welcome to the family” on their way out, and she teared up on the spot. That March at Villa Montalvo, with both families watching, Fitz got down on one knee with a whole speech prepared, promptly blacked out somewhere in the middle, and Katie said yes before he could find the rest of his words. It was magical anyway. They now live very happily in Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood with their two squishy fur babies, Pan and Lyka.
